Learn moreCabinets — Storage that doesn’t draw attention, but is missed when it’s gone
A room without enough storage never feels finished. Not because it’s untidy — but because everything that has no place to go remains visible. A good cabinet solves this quietly and discreetly. It hides what needs hiding, restores a sense of calm to the room, and becomes part of the décor — rather than a necessary evil.
Which cabinet goes where
A wardrobe needs depth — at least 55 cm for hanging clothes and 45 cm for folded ones. If space is limited, choose narrower models with pull-out elements instead of hinged doors — they don’t require clearance in front. A living room cabinet or highboard needs less depth but more width — it takes over the role of sideboards over a larger surface. A shoe cabinet in the hallway should be as narrow as possible — every centimeter of depth it doesn’t need is another centimeter of freedom to move when entering the home.
Height that defines the room
Low cabinets up to 100 cm allow the eye to wander and make rooms feel larger — but they offer less storage space. Tall cabinets that reach the ceiling maximize storage space and give the room a clear structure — but they can feel overwhelming if the space is too small. The best choice depends on the ceiling height: under 2.50 m, tall cabinets can quickly feel too dominant; above that, they can even make the room appear larger.
Doors, drawers, open compartments — what really works
Doors hide — ideal for anything used daily that shouldn’t be seen. Drawers organize — better than shelves for small items that would otherwise disappear into the depths of the cabinet. Open compartments display — good for books, décor, and things you need every day. The most effective combination: closed sections at the bottom for daily use, open compartments at the top for vases, décor, and artificial plants that bring the cabinet to life.
Materials that last
Light wood and oak feel warm and timeless — they suit almost any décor and age gracefully. Darker tones in black or walnut create a stronger contrast and look more modern. If you already have a TV stand or sideboard, choose a cabinet in the same material family — this ties the room together without everything looking identical.
