3-seater sofa – the classic that fits into every living room
The 3-seater sofa is the best-selling sofa size in Germany – and for good reason. It is the ideal compromise between space requirements and seating comfort: large enough to comfortably watch TV together or take a nap on the weekend, compact enough to fit into almost any living room, and flexible enough to work as the only sofa in the room or in combination with an armchair.
Typical widths for a 3-seater sofa range between 180 cm and 230 cm. Under 180 cm, it is usually referred to as a 2.5-seater; over 230 cm, it becomes an XL 3-seater, or you move into the corner sofa category. In our range, you will find the entire spectrum, with a focus on the most commonly used size between 195 cm and 215 cm. This is the width that looks best in most German living rooms (18–25 m²).
What should you pay particular attention to with a 3-seater sofa? Three points:
1. Seat depth. Modern 3-seaters often have a depth of 95–110 cm. This is comfortable for lying down and watching movies, but can be too deep for smaller people. If you prefer to sit more upright, look for models with 90 cm or less, or those with adjustable backrests.
2. Leg height. Tall sofa legs (15+ cm) make the sofa appear to float and make the room look larger. Low legs (0–5 cm) look more solid and cocoon-like. This is a design decision you should make consciously.
3. Armrest shape. Classic narrow armrests (10–15 cm) save seating area. Wide, flat armrests (25+ cm) serve as a shelf or seating area for guests – but cost seating width.
In our range, you will find 3-seaters in all relevant fabric worlds: bouclé, velvet, corduroy, woven fabric, microfiber. The price range goes from around €700 for solid entry-level models to around €2,400 for designer 3-seaters made in Europe with premium upholstery.
An often underestimated detail: Will the sofa fit through your door? A 3-seater with a width of 210 cm looks gentle and elegant in the apartment – but when moving through an 80-cm door in an old Berlin building, it becomes critical. Before ordering, check the transport dimensions (not just the overall width, but also the depth including armrests) and the narrow passages to the target room. If necessary, we will select a model for you with removable armrests or feet that can be maneuvered through the door more easily.

For whom is a 3-seater sofa ideal?
Couples without children: The 3-seater sofa is usually the perfect size here – comfortable for two, with enough space for occasional guests.
Small families (3 people): Parents + child fit well together on a 210-cm 3-seater. For larger families, it gets tight – then a corner sofa or modular sofa is worth it.
Singles with enough space: A 3-seater in 180–200 cm does not look oversized and offers space to stretch out and for guests.
Flatmates: A 3-seater in the common room works better than two individual armchairs – more seating places, cozier.
FAQ
How much space do I need for a 3-seater sofa? As a rule of thumb: The room should be at least twice as long as the sofa is wide. So for a 210-cm sofa, a room from 4.2 m in length. In addition, plan 60–80 cm distance to the coffee table.
Can three adults fit comfortably on a 3-seater? At 210 cm width: yes, but tight – ideal for couples with an occasional guest. At 230 cm: three adults comfortably.
How does a 3-seater differ from a 2.5-seater? A 2.5-seater is usually 170–190 cm wide and offers space for 2 adults plus a child or a short guest seat. A real 3-seater starts at 195 cm width.
Are there 3-seaters with a sleeping function? Yes, many of our 3-seaters offer a sleeping function with lying surfaces of 140 × 200 cm – ideal for occasional overnight guests.
Can I combine a 3-seater sofa with an armchair? Certainly – this is the classic living room configuration. Make sure that both pieces of furniture are from the same style (fabric, legs, height) or deliberately contrasting.
What size 3-seater for a 20 m² living room? Between 195 and 215 cm width is usually ideal. Below that, it quickly looks too small; above that, it overloads the room.

OUR STORY
Over 20 years ago, it all began with a school internship at a furniture store. At the age of 12, I stood among sofas, fabrics, and upholstery for the first time — and was instantly captivated.
I never left the furniture industry. I worked in the warehouse, sold in sales, and learned in purchasing what really matters when it comes to quality. These years taught me more than any textbook ever could — about materials, about people, and about what makes a truly good furniture purchase.
All this experience, combined with genuine passion and the desire for a more honest, personal furniture shopping experience, eventually led to the creation of PolsterOase. A company that provides the kind of advice I would want myself — honest, expert, and with a real sense of what suits you and your home.
Yours, Martin Dziukiewicz
